Album

The Who were in New York and nearing the end of a gruelling tour on April 4, 1968, the day that Dr Martin Luther King was assassinated. America was already a country divided Anti-Vietnam demonstrations, civil rights disturbances and militant student activism. With this turmoil as a backdrop on Friday and Saturday, April 5 and 6, 1968 The Who performed two incendiary live sets at Bill Grahams legendary Fillmore East on the lower East Side of Manhattan. The venue had only just re-opened in March by Graham from its previous incarnation as the Village Theatre where the band had played on a coupl. Live at the Fillmore East 1968 is a live album by the English rock band The Who. It was released on 20 April 2018 as a double album on CD, and a triple album on LP. Формируйте собственную коллекцию записей The sustained ferocity is why Live at the Fillmore East 1968 could conceivably be called the definitive Who live album: it may not have the classic status of Live at Leeds, but the group never sounded as explosive as it does here. Track Listing - Disc 1. The Who will release 'Live at the Fillmore East 1968' in April. Michael Ochs Archives, Getty Images. The Who will commemorate the 50th anniversary of a two-night stint at Bill Grahams famous New York venue with the double CD Live at the Fillmore East 1968, due out April 20th. The album includes a previously unreleased cover of Eddie Cochrans CMon Everybody and a rare version of Fortune Teller, which was penned by the New Orleans legend Allen Toussaint. The band also plays extended versions of Relax and A Quick One, which came out months before the April shows on The Who S. That combination of astonishing music and nerd-centric revelations makes Live at the Fillmore East 1968 a continuing treat. Had this record been released in its time, it might have felt like the statement that Leeds and every other show was catching up to. Coming decades later from the vaults, it's valuable as a historical artifact, but even more worthy as a devastating concert in itself, inevitable closing guitar-smashing and all. The Whos manager Kit Lambert had recorded both the 5th and 6th of April shows of 68 with a view to issuing as The Whos fourth album after Sell Out. That never happened, but 50 years later sound engineer Bob Pridden who was there in 1968 has restored and mixed songs from the 6 April show for this new archival release. The Who Live at Fillmore East 1968 will be released on 20 April 2018
