The War On Drugs - Lost in the Dream Album

Album

Lost in the Dream is the third studio album by American indie rock band The War on Drugs, released on March 18, 2014 through Secretly Canadian. The recording session, which took place over a two-year period, was characterized by numerous rewrites. The album's lyrical themes were influenced by the loneliness and depression Granduciel faced after he finished touring. Musically, the record was inspired by 1980s rock, as well as Americana, with influences coming from Bruce Springsteen, Spacemen 3 and Neil. Lost In The Dream' is the third album by Philadelphia band The War on Drugs, but in many ways, it feels like the first. Around the release of the 2011 breakthrough 'Slave Ambient', Adam Granduciel spent the bulk of two years on the road, touring through progressively larger rock clubs, festival stages and late-night television slots. That essence drives 'Lost In The Dream', a 10-song set produced by Granduciel and longtime engineer Jeff Zeigler. In the past, Granduciel built the core of songs largely by himself. The War on Drugs fourth full-length operates with a bigger, bolder agenda-evident in the clattering electronics and hypnotic production of the nearly nine-minute opener, Under the Pressure. From there, Lost in the Dream unfolds with warm, melancholic rock that combines Granduciels mystical tenor with a blurry haze of vintage synths, chiming guitars, horn accents and reverb-soaked ambience. Uptempo tracks like Red Eyes and An Ocean in Between the Waves juxtapose pulsing, mechanical backbeats with droning synths. The War On Drugs - An Ocean In Between The Waves. Under the Pressure Lyrics. For me, Lost in the Dream is about feeling disconnected from everything-your life, your expectations, your romantic relationships-and trying to make something in the face of that feeling, but also about it. A lot of the songs - Under The Pressure, Suffering - I wrote when I wasnt thinking about myself or the bigger picture, but six months later they really formed what the album turned into. Its definitely autobiographical, but its also about trying to put those feelings that I know everyone has into the kind of art I want to make. Lost in the Dream Q&A. The War on Drugs 2011 album Slave Ambient saw perpetual unease as a Zen state: bandleader Adam Granduciels ruminations on restlessness read like a veritable prescription for Xanax, but the psychedelia-smeared country-rock enveloping his words was all, like, No worries, dude. The War on Drugs third album, however, presents no easy remedy for his inner turmoil. If the mesmerizing motorik hum of Slave Ambient gave Granduciel an outlet to escape his problems, Lost in the Dream is where he pulls a U to survey the emotional wreckage. When Philadelphia-based purveyors of stripped-down, haunted rock perfection the War on Drugs came on the scene with their 2008 debut, Wagonwheel Blues, their sound perked up the ears of a new generation of soul searchers looking for a soundtrack. Summoning up the patron saints of FM radio rock, the band was constantly framed as an update to the wild-eyed sermons of Dylan and Springsteen or the summer-night abandon that Tom Petty perfected, all filtered through walls of decidedly indie guitar noise. You can hear how much careful thought was put into each and every song on Lost In the Dream - The War on Drugs Album, as subtle changes in background keyboards or synth tones heighten emotion at just the right times. Each song on the Lost In the Dream - The War on Drugs Album will take you on a journey if you let it. Give this album a listen, you will not regret it.
