Ric Ocasek passed away on September 15 from heart disease, and due to fans request we are sharing an audio interview with him. During his estrangement Cars is the debut album by the American new wave band the Cars. It was released on June 6, 1978, on Elektra Records. The album, which featured the three charting singles Just What I Needed, My Best Friend's Girl and Good Times Roll, as well as several album-oriented rock radio hits, was a major success for the band, remaining on the charts for 139 weeks. After the Cars breakup in 1989, Ocasek began creating his second legacy: serving as producer, champion and mentor for dozens of semi-established or up-and-coming bands. Ocasek produced records by two generations of punk and indie acts, including Bad Religion, Guided by Voices, Suicide, Bad Brains, D Generation and Nada Surf. The basics of songwriting is art. Yet for all the joy he gave to music fans, Ocasek led a somewhat troubled life that included a difficult childhood, three marriages, and the collapse of the Cars, walking away from that band when he was at the height of his fame. In 2011 The Cars without Benjamin Orr who had passed away on October 4, 2000 released a new album and went on tour again with Greg Hawkes taking over on bass and Ric Ocasek as sole lead singer.
