Perhaps best known as one half of 10 String Symphony, Rachel Baiman's new album Shame is an exploration of growing up Baiman is an American singer-songwriter and fiddler based in Nashville, Tennessee. Baiman grew up in Chicago, Illinois. She has described her father as a radical economist and her mother is a social worker. When she was young, her parents took her to meetings at the Ethical Humanist Society of Greater Chicago. She moved to Nashville at age 18 and held a number of odd jobs over the years including serving lunch to the tech elite, and reading turn of the century novels involving the labor. Album 2017 10 Songs. On her first album of solo songwriting, she speaks up via the title track about the ways in which old white men want to dictate how women inhabit their bodies: You better look away, bow your head and prayCuz I wont feel shame. Elsewhere on the album, she gathers bluegrass and old-time music makers to instill vibrant string timbres-fiddles, mandolins, acoustic guitars-that bolster her lyrics about politics, traveling, and pining for someone who likely isnt thinking about you. I could only be further from you if the world wasnt round, she sings on Thinkin on You
