Notes

"I wanted this album to be about death, but it didn't fit. Instead I expanded on the idea of loss and made it about nostalgia, which for me means the loss of things both large and small, both incredibly heavy and largely inconsequential. I experienced all those things in 2016, and as a result the only thing I could create was a minimal, slowly-evolving and (hopefully) beautiful dive into that feeling. Overlaid is the story and history behind the word "nostalgia", which was coined by doctors studying Swiss mercenaries far away from home, and the physical ailments brought on by their feelings."

The Swiss Illness also features a number of refreshing surprises throughout its tracklist. The opening piece, A Universal Weakness, seems content riding atop wavy synths for a few minutes, but it suddenly switches to a piano-based theme that is complemented by the counter-melody of an acoustic guitar. Aside from the gorgeous patterns of The Swiss Illness, the album curiously comes out of the risqué rock label BadChristian. Co-founder of the label Matt Carter recently noted in their eponymous podcast as to why they signed Lowercase Noises and what makes this album in particular so engaging: it forces you to listen

Additional to my previous comment: A replacement of this white LP was sent to me. Same warped record, the centre hole is too small, there is no groove to lead in and so the needle slips off, same crackle and a skip on side A. While I can recommend this beautiful album wholeheartedly, this ain't the version to get. Hopefully there will be call for a repress and these issues will be addressed, but for now, I'm very disappointed.

I just noticed your other comment. I was very disappointed that it was warped, and it sucks your second copy was also warped. I got the black version. He makes such beautiful music, its a shame that the vinyl pressings aren't as beautiful.

Listened to this album on spotify and it was great. Ordered the LP and it came so warped that I could not listen to it. Sad since it certainly could have been a great LP.

Glad it's not just me. Warped and hissing all over the place - gutted as I paid international shipping as well. Waiting to hear back from the distributors what they're planning to do.
