Don't know why this Lp gets such short shrift. You can buy it all day for a couple of bucks a pop, but it's worth more than that in listening pleasure, for sure. First of all, it was an early digital recording by Nautilus Records, and the presence and pop of the audio is stunning on HQ vinyl. Second, the performers are in great voice. Yes, Bob Shane was getting a little crunchy in his old age, but the enthusiasm of his performance more than makes up for the huskyness of the leads. And the musicianship of George and Roger is superb. And it was all recorded in one take. I recommend this to all fans of the Trio, or of American folk music, for that matter, not to replace the original recordings, but to revisit them as treasured friends.
Greetings, and may I add that the DBX-encoded vinyl version is further incredible. Bob's enthusiasm for being back in the studio and revisiting his passion in evident. Having grown up with these fine examples of truly venerable masters of the genre, I am forever awed by their virtuosity and commitment.
