KATE WOLF January 27, 1942 - December 10, 1986 When Kate became ill with leukemia, she realized she would not record again for a long time, if ever. She began this retrospective project and finished it just before she became unable to work. Kate selected all the songs, the sequence and the photographs, and she wrote the notes for the cover. This album is dedicated to the memory of Kate Wolf. We will all miss her. Compiled by Kate Wolf. Billboard Magazine March 21, 1987 Members of Wolfs sizable cult and the uninitiated alike will appreciate these unshowy yet potent songs. Kate Wolf died of leukemia in 1986, and listening to this exceptional, two-disc retrospective reminds us of just how much we lost. Her voice had a palatable ache, a lonesome grace, and she wrote so many thoughtful, finely shaped songs. One is called, Treasures Left Behind, Remembering Kate Wolf, and the second is A Kate Wolf Retrospective recorded live in 1996, in Sebastopol, California. Read more. 7 people found this helpful. Kate Wolf born Kathryn Louise Allen in San Francisco, California, USA January 27, 1942 December 10, 1986 was an American folk singer and songwriter. Wolf didn't get her recording career going until the mid-'70s, by which time she was well into her thirties. Prior to emerging as a solo artist, she had headed the band Wildwood Flower who backed her on her first two albums, and organized folk concerts and festivals in Northern California. For most listeners, it will serve as the Kate Wolf album to own, assembling the best of her somewhat similar albums in one place and for those who want more, Rhino has reissued her entire catalog. Every one of these titles was previously released, with the exception of a version of Alice Stuart's Full Time Woman. This is identical to the initial Kaleidoscope release of the album, though the Rhino CD adds an unnecessarily confusing Vol. 1 & 2 to the title.
