Rubinstein knew Poulenc and ALbeniz personally-and his playing is appropriately authoritative. This 1938 performance of Poulenc's Mouvements perpetuels makes for fascinating comparison with his 1963 version. There is remarkably little change in phrasing between the two recordings, but tempos in the earlier version are noticably brisker. His chamber music recordings with Jascha Heifetz, Gregor Piatigorsky, Henryk Szeryng, and others are also here. The hardcore Rubinstein fan who feels that heshe is missing something may very well find it in this extensive collection of material. piano: Arthur Rubinstein pianist on 1938-11-13. balance engineer: Edward Fowler engineer. Francis Poulencs works FP number: FP 14. arrangements: Mouvement perpétuel for violin and piano, arr. Francis Poulenc. Arthur Rubinstein understood their childlike wonder, his playing refreshingly, charmingly simple. The bell-like tone of his right hand soars artlessly over subtle accompaniment, and everything is delicately pedalled, tempos just so. Bask in Op. 15 No. 3 or Op. 27 No. 1 to hear the mastery of Rubinsteins control: fortes never growl, pianissimos are exquisite. And the elegant ornamentation in Op. 32 No. 1 shows a stunning technique at the total service of Chopins timeless music.
