The album was banned in Germany-censored versions of the album were not available, but the ban was revoked in June 2006-and other countries because of the violent cover and the extreme nature of the lyrics. Glen Benton of Deicide and Francis H. Howard of Opprobrium then known as Incubus perform back-up vocals on Mangled and A Skull Full of Maggots. Get the story behind Cannibal Corpse's groundbreaking first album. Like many major 90s U. death metal bands, Cannibal Corpse recorded their debut album Eaten Back to Life at Tampa, Floridas Morrisound Studios. Yet the classic release, which came out August 17, 1990, was written in the bands hometown of Buffalo, New York. It would be another four years before Cannibal Corpse moved to Tampa to be a part of the citys thriving death metal scene. Like its previous album, the equally twisted Eaten Back to Life, Butchered at Birth addresses such lurid topics as dismemberment, torture, and masochism. One will need the lyric sheet to know just how gross songs like Under the Rotted Flesh, Meat Hook Sodomy, Covered with Sores, and Rancid Amputation are - the grunting vocals are impossible to understand
