The Alabama-born son of a Baptist preacher, Big Joe Duskin grew up to become one of the stalwarts of the Cincinnati blues scene. Although he honored a promise to his father that he would not play the Devil's music until his father's death at the age of 104, in the 1970s, Duskin quickly made up for lost time. He is best known for his debut album, Cincinnati Stomp 1978, and the tracks Well, Well Baby and I Met a Girl Named Martha. He was born Joseph L. Duskin in Birmingham, Alabama. By the age of seven he had started playing the piano. He played in church, accompanying his father, the Rev. Perry Duskin. His family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, and Duskin was raised near the Union Terminal train station. Pianist, singer, and songwriter Big Joe Duskin got his start playing piano in church, accompanying his father's sermons with gospel hymns.
